If possible, avoid becoming the boss of people you are friends with. It just adds a level of stress one doesn't need.

Ugh that happened to me once, well, we were all coworkers and I was promoted. It was bad, I had to fire one of my former friends because she decided she didn't want to work for me, but instead of quitting she just stopped doing her work. It got really ugly.

Exactly the reason I nor none of my friends at work applied for the supervisor position in our department when it opened up. It would just be way too awkward to deal with. Oh, well, there was one person who applied for the position both times it was open, and she got turned down twice. But she acts like she's in charge anyway, so it didn't make much of a difference. And she slacks off and pisses people off left and right. Wow, come to think of it...maybe she *did* get the job after all...
